For our short war drama 'Turning Tide,' I scratch built a 1/9th scale section of a Heinkel He 111 bomber to stage the aftermath of it's crash into the sea.  To save time and money, the model was only finished where it would be seen by the camera.  An adjustable underwater rig was also designed and built to pose the model in the correct position in the water.  Research and location scouting was done to find the ideal patch of water to film the miniature and achieve the successful illusion of a miniature sea. The shot was filmed at 75 fps to slow down the footage and give scale and weight to the waves. The miniature was then composited with footage of rocks from the main live action shoot.
